In episode 61, season 4 of SATC, "The Good Fight" the question of the week is When it comes to relationships, what are we fighting for?

That's the one where Carrie and Aidan move in together and Trey gives Charlotte a cardboard cut out of a baby.

Relationships are tough to begin with. Tougher it seems the older you get. It should be easier you would think, but when you have lived alone for so long then suddenly find yourself with someone new, it's full of frustrating moments.

I would never know, as I have lived alone for my whole adult life.

My best relationship has been with a company not a man. Yes, my weekly reviews of TNA wrestling (Total Non-Stop Action) has been both my longest and most solid relationship to date.

Sad, pathetic and I don't even get paid. Totally a labor of love.

The episode of SATC deals with the lack of communication between men and women and how we react to stressful issues. There is even a line where Carrie says the difference between fighting in a relationship and Madison Square Garden is there are no refs, no one to tell you when a comment is hitting below the belt.

This is very true. Too true actually. When we fight in a relationship, we hurt each other and sometimes the people around us. When we fight in a controlled area like the six sided ring, we may hurt ourself but it's very rare the people in our lives get hurt in the cross fire.

(unless of course you are standing too close to the ring during an X-Division match and get slammed by one of Chris Sabin's suicide dives.)

What is it about personal space, personal time, personal fears that cause us, no matter who we are, to start fights when in relationships? Are we as individuals so insecure that we need to cause pain to our other half in order to keep some of our own individual pride?

And how many of us know when to turn our fears into something useful? I have to go back to the question of the week on this one and ask "when it comes to relationships, what are we fighting for?"

Sorority Vampires From Hell

I was looking for a Dracula movie I had never seen before, but couldn't find one. I did however find "Sorority Vampires From Hell". So this is a bit of a replacement movie.

I can't believe I sat through this and it was only 80 minute movie.

Three girls have just joined a new sorority, and need to find out which of their new sisters is really a vampire. Meanwhile, Dracula who lives in the basement and his girlfriend Natalia are out to destroy the earth. If Natalia can claim 9 victims in 3 days she will become human.

This movie starts off with a 3D go-go dancing scene that made me question what kind of movie this was. It was listed as a horror. But after the first 2 minutes of a soft porn-ish scene where a large television displays a series of cartoon tentacles that look like jelly penises, I was thinking drugs would be nice right about now.

It's actually a slapstick comedy that makes fun of everything from Rocky Horror Picture Show to lip synced rap videos from the late 80's. There are wholes in the plot that you could drive a truck through and the sound craps out more then once.

However, the scenes with Dracula trapped in the basement and Jim the half vampire (he is in half a vampire costume and does an impression of Ash/Evil Ash from the Evil Dead 2) carry you through the rest of it.

Something to rent if you are having a big drinking party. Perfect for drive- in classic night too.

In the episode the Agony and the Ex-tacy (season 4 of Sex and the City ) the topic of soulmates is tackled.

The question that Carrie asks is "soulmate reality or torture device?" and each of the girls has their personal view on it. This is also the episode where Carrie has a birthday and no one shows up.

I have always been a big believer in soulmates. I've written about it on more then one occasion in the past, and still hope to find mine.

I am more then familiar with that being alone in your 30's, only I don't have the group of friends to laugh it off with. Was this the decade of the soulmate?

With shows like Sex and the City, maybe the question should be was this last decade the decade of searching for a soulmate?

The big hits in chick lit all seemed to tackle the soulmate questionnaire. So after watching this episode I couldn't help but wonder how much crap do we need to go through to find out soulmates?

The year is nearly up, and I have been trying to take stock of it.

Where did it all go wrong? I need to ask. Men in my life this year were a top priority as were books.

I suppose that is not much different then any other year. Yet it feels like it was.

I trusted alot of the wrong people this past year and came out scorched. Let's hope I've learned a few things and that next years relationships are more solid.

Vampire Themed Dinner

I have been thinking about this. Wither or not I get around to doing this for the challenge still has to be seen, but I have been thinking about it.

I have been on the Martha Stewart website in her Halloween recipes, I have been going through "cooking with goths" style websites, and then I remembered I had a few pages from an old Canadian Living Magazine for a Gothic themed dinner. And sure enough, they still have the recipes on the website.

So now I am armed and possibly dangerous. So, I will try to get the time and ingredients together soon and make a few of the recipes. The cocktail recipes are the easiest.

This was the last item on my Alt. To Do List for the All Vamp Challenge.

I should have learned my lesson last year with the first film, don't go opening weekend. It was so packed there were line ups with guardrails, and extra staff just for this film.

So we pick up where the last one left off, Bella is starting her senior year at school, and is in a peachy-keen relationship with Edward. And they are studying Romeo and Juliet at school, so you can see where this plot line is headed before it happens.

I'm not even sure they used a scriptwriter for this one, it seemed to be word for word from the book.

I was hoping the werewolves would have been more animatronics and less digital, but sadly the werewolves were all digital effects.

The addition of Michael Sheen as Aro was the main attraction for me seeing this installment. I loved him in the Underworld series, and was eager to see what he could do as a vampire. Too bad he didn't have much screen time in this one. There is something about the idea of the Volturi, that just reminds me so much of Anne Rice's Theater de Vampyres from her novels, and Aro just puts me in mind so much of Armand.

This was a much better film then the first one was, the story was stronger, more interesting. The introduction of the wolf pack and the beginning of their back story added a layer that the other film just did not have. Call me crazy, but the chemistry between the actor playing Jacob black and the actress playing Bella Swan seemed more believable then what we saw of Bella and Edward.

The one liners mostly delivered by the character of Alice went un-noticed by half the audience that was in the room with me, and I found myself laughing alone at all the wet dog jokes.

I guess when you get to be my age, the idea of a second love and bouncing back from a heartbreak is more interesting then the idea of a first love.

It's no secret that I think the third book Eclipse is the strongest book in the series, and am actually waiting for that film .

Power of the Words

Just watching the movie Possession, which is about two professors who are each studying a different poet, and end up finding out the poets had an affair.

It's done through diaries and letters and poems. Beautiful movie.

It of course got me thinking about how powerful a simple letter can be.

Makes me wonder how historians a hundred years from now are going to be able to catalog all of us. There won't be the kind of journals and letters like that because of all the internet stuff.

Makes me sad really.

My Weekend

I spent Friday morning at the hospital with mom cause she had an appointment for a round of x-rays. Ultrasound actually. While she was in for her appointment, I hung around the coffee shop. Across from the coffee shop, the fracture clinic is.

The guy running the fracture clinic office took my breath away. Young, couldn't have been more then 26-27 years old, blue eyes, sandy coloured hair that feel over his forehead, short beard and shoulders to die for.

I know this sounds familiar doesn't it. Trust me on this one, I had to do not just a double take, but a triple take. Looked just like the wrestler Chris Sabin.

So we have a Sabin look alike who is a doctor or medical assistant or whatever it is he does.

I could not stop staring at the guy. I think I actually drooled at one point.

Saturday I spent writing. Managed to get 3 pages written on my novel. Went to mom's for a hour or so then to the grocery.

Yesterday, sat around the house and tried to get some more work done on my novel, but was too easily distracted. Found myself drifting off into daydreams again about our look alike.

Not too mention more then little upset to find out Eastwick has been canceled.

Today I just give up and I think I will try to read some. Too many books on the go, 3 of which I am suppose to have reviews for before Christmas.

Mr. Darcy Vampyre -Review

This was the first challenge on my list for the All Vamp Challenge.

But since I had already reviewed it on my other blog few months ago (it was what inspired the All Vamp Challenge) I thought I would give it some time, and take a second look at it.

I am still not thrilled with this book.

Plot: It's the wedding tour for our Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. But just as they step foot into the coach Darcy changes their plans and takes her off to Paris. The wedding night does not happen, and Elizabeth fears Darcy regrets the marriage. As the days turn into weeks, Elizabeth is introduced to people from Darcy's past who seem to have strange habits even for people who live outside of England. In the chaos she learns her husband is not what he first seemed.

She is then seduced and abused by someone from Darcy's past.

Here is my original review

So now I will go on to talk about a few points I did not make the first time, like the bat.

We are given one scene where Darcy resorts to the typical Dracula stereotype of being able to turn into a bat but it's ill used. The theme could have been expanded on with plot thickeners but it's just left kind of hanging as an afterthought.

I also do not understand why Jane would not have been trying to get ahold of Elizabeth by this point? The two sisters would have used everything in their power to communicate. Even though Elizabeth's communication attempts were stifled, Jane's side would have been wide open.

This book, as I stated the first time around when I read it, has so many plot holes it's as if the writer removed chunks.

Would I get a sequel if one is offered? You know I most likely would simply to see if the missing pieces were explained.

Sucks to be Me by Kimberly Pauley {book review}

This was on my Alternate List. The reading another Young Adult book

Mina has known her whole life her parents are vampires, and just before her 17th birthday she is told she has to choose wither or not to become one herself. Ontop of that she has prom to deal with. But before she can make up her mind wither or not to become a vampire she has to take vampire classes. Here she meets not one but two sexy guys. Mina is already dealing with her long time crush in normal high school and finding out her best friend is actually in love with the same guy. How will she handle normal teenaged issues like friends, high school, prom and the undead vampire life?

I have to say I can't wait for the second one. The back of the book gives a small teaser for the sequel and it looks great. I read this in one day. Which is a record for me, I have only done that once before {Hard Core Logo by Micheal Turner}

I thought the idea of teenaged crushes and disappointments were handled perfectly. Loyalty being the underlining current. There were a few characters that I would have loved to see more of, like the vampire lady in the bathroom and the vampire writer that the kids meet.

The city that the story is set in is very under described, mostly to give the impression of being anywhere the reader is. If I had to pick a favourite character it would be Aubrey. He starts off as a very slick too perfect for sugar kind of character that just ends up falling apart. That is one character I wish had some more back story. He puts me in mind of Jane Austen's Frank Churchill character from Emma.

This is a teenaged comedy, with hints of Vampire Lestat and Little Vampire running amuck throughout.

All he wanted was someone to review his book, but he was going about it all wrong. When no one took him up on his request he had a tantrum.

The Kitten Diaries by Conny Manero.

I don't normally venture into children's books, but this one I won on a ning.com site and it's autographed.

Was surprised at how good it was. Too often I have seen children's books that are dumbed down, but this was not done that way at all.

Witches of Eastwick

From best selling book to movie to television show, what is it about these characters that has kept us spellbound for over 20 years?

I read the novel back in the mid 1990's, and could not put it down. And I still came away thinking the movie was better. Rarely does that ever happen.

I was looking forward to the second book last spring, only to be disappointed. Still I could not put the book down till I finished reading it. Here is my review of it

I have always loved the film version. And after only two weeks (episode three aired last night but I have not had a chance to see it yet) of the new television show, I am hooked on the basic plot once again. The television show so far has pulled from the book's mythology but has enough new material to be a stand alone show. In other words, you do not need to have read the books or seen the original movie to understand what is going on.

For those who have seen the movie from 1986/87 will find one cast member returning to the new show. Veronica Cartwright plays Bun on the new ABC show, which is a character very close to her movie role of Felicia ,which I thought was a great twist and way to link the two.

One of my challenges for the All Vamp Challenge is making a vampire themed scrapbook. Figured it would be the easiest as I would just make a physical copy of what I am doing here.

As in, photos of the book covers/dvd covers, a print out of the reviews, little halloween decors etc in a scrapbook.

This would make it the final challenge.

Well, hell of a lot harder then it seems. Believe it or not stuck for ideas on the decorations.

Now I know the challenge doesn't start for another month, but thought I'd better get a cracking on that one while the stores still have halloween decorations.

If I actually make it through my winter projects with everything complete I will be amazed.

Life has taken a strange twist. I have been busy with my own novel, only to get side tracked with helping someone else with theirs.

That is fine. That is cool infact because now word is out that I do reviews for other books on my book blog and have the chance to get books from the publishing houses early and do some interviews with the authors.

Very nice.

I have a chance myself of a publishing deal if scheduling would just mesh.

I am sure I can think of a ton of other vampire related items to add to this. Shame I only set the challenge for 6 months.

I finally finished reading the Shining. I posted over on the book blog about it.

Mid way through Mr. Darcy Vampyre for the All Jane Austen Challenge.

And thinking of starting my own challenge in a month or so, an all vampire one.

Should be interesting.

My own novel is causing me headaches. Deadline is end of next month and I am far from finished it. I have it a wall with my characters and not sure how to get around it.

So far I have managed to get 3 chapters read in the Shining. Struggling with that one, I can't seem to get past the way the movie was done. Keep seeing the actors from it and just can't get into the book.

There was this really good looking guy at the grocery the other day. I was walking through the bakery heading towards the frozen foods, when this sexy guy with a body like a lion and skin like bronzed candy walked past me. He was staring for the 40 seconds it took him to do so. I thought for sure he was going to come back over to me and start chatting, but no he just kept on going to the seafood part of the deli.

Once again we at hardcore Vamps Prods., are trying to get the vampire/zombie film done.

I am back rewriting it once again. I swear this is like the 13th time in ten years I have had to write up a draft of this film.

Promises keep getting made about where the money will come from, and it never does. Promises keep getting made over the crew members who "swear they love it" then bail out in the end.

If we don't get it made this time, I might kill someone.

What are you looking for?

I have been on a bunch of websites for the last 2 years for Pagan/Wiccan's. They are all the same, with the same people. Who all want to have you on their friend's list but never interact. I finally got tired last winter and created my own.

Samething happened. Had a bunch of the same people join and do nothing. Now I am dealing with a dead site.

It's really depressing. I am going to have to ban over 30 people just because they have not done anything in 7 months.

The thing is with these sites, everyone complains about the inactivity, then they all start their own and invite all their friends from all the other sites and expect it to be shinny and new. But the issue comes down to the fact they are inviting the very people they were complaining about.

I did not invite people to mine, I just created it and waited.

Friends of mine have jumped from site to site to site to site in the last two months talking of the same issues. That no one posts and contributes. Their trouble is they want 24/7 posts. It can't happen that way. If you are wanting to be part of a Pagan/Wiccan community even online, if you want real answers and real knowledge then it needs to come from people who are out living their lives that way. Not a group of people who just pick up a book and copy it all, or cut and paste from elsewhere on the internet. And if you expect 24/7 posts, that is all you are going to get, copy and pasted answers.

End of the Month

Lovely. It's been storming here a lot.

Sinus headaches everyday this past week. Have a lot of running around today, which at lest will get me out of the apartment for the afternoon.

Visit with my friend was nice. Caught up on everything. I have been saying for years I want to move. Finally had it with this place. I am starting to look for a new apartment. Some point in the next few years I would love to travel out of the country. Always wanted to go to London England. If I can find a cheaper apartment here, I might be able to save up over the next few years to go.

Now off to pay the phone bill.

Vanity Fair

I am not much a fan of Reese Witherspoon, I find her disagreeable to look at, but I can not say anything but good about her performance in this film. I know it's been out for a few years, but I was looking for a Non-Jane Austen film that would still have that feel to it and broke down getting this one.

I loved it. The book is now on my to read list. This story is as modern now as it was when it was first written. I have become a sucker as of late for Regency Period films. Actually I have always been a sucker for Regency Period films.

Red was the main accent in this movie. Red gloves, red lace, red feathers. Makes one almost want to redecorate in the single colour. Almost.

A course in madness

I know I did a study on Hunter S. Thompson a few years ago and blogged about it. The trouble is, I have worked on so many blogs in the last 5 years, some of which are no longer around, that I can't find the article for an updated reprint.

You can imagine how this is frustrating me to no end. Sending up mad waves of paranoia and self loathing.

I hate to think I have to start from scratch on this one but it is looking that way.

I love martinis. This one I had out at a bar and found the recipe online at the Martha Stewart Living site.

1 ounce of citrus vodka

1 ounce of raspberry vodka

1/2 ounce Chambord

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 tablespoon simple syrup

2 tablespoon cranberry juice

raspberries to top

In a martini shaker mix with ice, stir, strain into martini glass add raspberries

Still trying to deal with the web domain issue. They have closed down their phone support. I might have to get a new host for the whole thing if it does not go through by tomorrow morning. Last thing I want is to loose my web domain for hardcore Vamps Prods.,

The book club seems to be stalled in it's tracks. Never heard back from the one main guy who seemed interested in it. Shame too, as he was cute. Would have been interesting to see what kind of guy he was.

My planner is filling up nicely. Have not needed so many sticky notes in my addressbook/planner in a few years. It is nice to feel needed. And busy.

It's been one of those nights. Can't seem to get a hold of anyone.

I am getting past due bills for the website address domains, and I know I paid them. But it's after hours and I can't do anything until 9am in the morning.

And a close male friend who I thought was pissed off at me, thought the same thing of him. Ends up he had a virus on his computer and was hacked. He had to loose his MySpace, and create a new one and his emails were not working. Thought I was pissed at him and just not answering.

We're good now. He got a new email address.

But it's just been one of those days/nights where nothing has gone right.

My favourite Starbucks employee is back for the summer. Well, one of my two favourites. The other got a life in another city now.

It's comforting being able to walk into the Starbucks and just nod and not even have to ask for what I want. He's been taking my order for the last 4 years. Wow. He's been more stable then any of my boyfriends/lovers in those years. That's scary when you think about it.

It's been one of those days. I had to get into an old blog and of course could not remember the password or my login name or if it was under a personal email account or company one.

I spent an hour looking through an old desk drawer and for a dayplanner from 3 years ago, then spent another forty-five minutes flipping through the dayplanner looking for anything that might be a password or clue to the account it was under.

Finally got in -so I thought - through the company account only to have to send a support ticket to the blog host.

This is why we left that blog host to begin with and came to this one.

Yes, I finally finally got into the blog in question, after almost 3 hours of back and forth. Too bad I had forgotten what I was in there for.

It's raining here today which is a good thing, as my sinus problems do not bother me when it rains. I finished reading the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies last night, and now am ready to jump into the next batch of books.

I have been hearing alot about Neverwhere. Two of my friends and an Ex, were talking about this couple of years ago, I found it ironically in a second hand shop last year but it got pushed to the bottom of the book pile.

The lost art of letter writing

Just finished reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and then watched Jane Austen Book Club

and I have to say that I envy the women of that time for one simple reason. The letters.

The men back then had no options really, other then writing a letter for means of communication. They had to know how to articulate, there was no reason for them not to use proper grammar and it was very personal.

Unlike the men of today who almost never use full sentences. I have to say that texting killed the written word. It is to the point now that over half the world can not write a proper sentence.

When I get emails that are choppy with text speech I don't even bother reading them. I have no time for decoding.

Let's bring back the lost art of letter writing.

What kind of Bag are you?

I think I spent almost ten years drooling over the classic black alligator clutch purse till I finally found a mock up last year.

Not black, but red. It's cute, the inside has a leopard/cheetah pattern.

I also found on the same day, a fake leather shoulder bag in the same colour with the same print inside. I thought why not. Then continued to keep with the theme and bought a scarf in leopard and a makeup bag with leopard lining.

Some women are shoe people, some women are purse people. I am a purse person. While hunting yesterday for my little case of business cards, I was going through a pile of purses. And the pile of purses were all so different, some were black with buckles, some were tan with short straps, some had prints on them in hot pink. The only thing I can say they all had in common, was that they are all large purses.

I am made fun of by my family all the time for having big purses.

Yes, I carry the "Granny Purse". The kind of purse that if you go to a brunch on Sunday you can easily fit half the buffet table into, a copy of the complete works of Shakespeare and still have room. Your back would be killing you from carrying it, but hey.

Were as my sister buys a new little purse once a year that is usually waterproof, and can hold her keys and cellphone. Normally in black or navy.

Mom on the other hand has a wide selection of white purses. Always a half size bigger then my sister's.

So why do I need such big bags? I carry everything in case. And it never fails, when I go out with one of them I end up carrying all their stuff too because my purse is bigger.

Does this mean I am the organized type? Not in the lest. It just means I am ready for wherever the day takes me.

My Summer Plans

I am currently trying to get a book club going here in this city. Not an easy task.

Don't know if it's a case of no one is interested or just where it is summer time.

Working on my novel. Always working on my novel.

Also trying to save up enough money to travel to Southern Ontario again maybe late Fall early Spring. So that means less money for books and Starbucks.

Gin is trying to help write the script over at hardcore Vamps Prods., so good luck! I can't see that going too well to be honest. Setla keeps promising to get together to go over stuff and restart the film, but you know her. The theater group she is in always seems to have something that takes her time. And god only knows what is up with Viva-Loco Homegirl Esq. she truly is in a planet of her own making.

I saw the cute guy from the other day, I was heading into Starbucks as he was coming out.

I braved a smile and he nodded as he put on his sunglasses. He has the most perfect blue eyes.

Ice blue eyes, almost puts you in mind of the ocean.

It's too hot here today. Already sitting at 29'c feeling like 36'c . This is too much for my body to handle. And it's not even July yet.

Not too shocked, but not too happy either.

It was a good book, not as good I don't think as 4Blondes was. And I don't think they had the right people handing the show. Had they gotten the crew of Sex and the City it would have been a lot better.

What I would like to see turned into a show for a network that would be able to handle it properly is One Fifth Avenue.

I thought it was a much stronger book.

Does this coat make me look fat?

No being pregnant makes you look fat.

Such a dumb question. That is something I will never get my mind around, the babydoll high empress waist shirts. They make the skinniest rake of a woman look pregnant not just fat. And unless you are pregnant why would you want to look it?

I decided to come back to Starbucks and see if I can spot that cute guy again. So far no such luck. But I have been watching a group of teens as they prim and prance around the place on what can only be 4 inch heels that are so not right for this young an age. Long dyed hair that they keep swishing their fingers through, and did I mention fake nails that have to be almost a half inch. I don't understand how you can do anything with such long nails, real or otherwise. No wonder men always date younger then their age bracket, little girls are the cause. Little girls who dress a decade older then they are. Stop trying to grow up so fast, cause trust me once you are my age you just want to stop aging altogether.

I loved the animal prints used in the show Lipstick Jungle, and on the cover of the original book by Candace Bushnell.

I have been hunting online for a bag like what was used on the show by the character Nico Reilly , but have not been able to find one.

I love the fact that you get that subliminal message of Cougar when you see Nico Reilly decked out in so much animal prints.

For anyone who has not seen the tv show or read the book, the character is a 40 something magazine exec. who has an affair with a much younger man.

A Martini is not what it used to be

I can actually remember when a Martini or a Starbucks coffee were considered a status symbol.

Now, even teenagers are having them.

I am sitting here now a stack of notes and novels beside me on one side of my laptop, a Grande Mocha Frappachino on the other side of my laptop. Staring at the beautiful man with the black dress pants and black dress shirt rolled up to the middle of his arms, wondering if he's single, if he's straight and what colour his eyes are behind those sunglasses.

My life is not what I thought it would be. I had always figured by this age I would be married and the head of my own Magazine by now. Or at the very lest the head of a Television Station.

That never happened. So now I am living with defeat and trying to figure out just where I fit in.
